Reclaimed Wood Desk - Sit or Standing Reclaimed Solid Wood Desk with Jarvis Electric Adjustable Standing Desk Base

$ 1,950

The Reclaimed Wood Slab Desk is a beautiful way to work.  A truly heirloom quality desktop - the wood has an extraordinary character; showing marks from nails, saws, and weather from decades of past use

The reclaimed pine used to make your desktop is harvested from old barns and buildings around the Midwest instead of standing forests.  Reclaimed oak and other species are sometimes available by special order.  Contact us for a availability and a quote.

We have learned from years of painstaking production how to carefully craft reclaimed wood tops.  We moisture test and dry wood to 7% moisture or below.  We use extra large Festool Dominoes and Tightbond 2 to join the boards for structural integrity.   We painstakingly fill holes, open knots, worm holes, and .. bullet holes... with epoxy.  Any cracked boards are carefully epoxied and bow-tied for strength.    We CNC mill the top and bottom for perfect flatness.  We also embed 1/2" x 1" Steel U-Channel in the bottom of the desk to provide structural reinforcement as well as ensure an absolutely flat desk surface.  Both the top and the bottom of the desk are sealed and protected from environmental moisture to keep your desktop flat, stable, and provide years of service.

So, if you're curious why a reclaimed desk is about the same price as an Evolve - it's because it takes us longer to make a reclaimed desk than it does to make an Evolve.  Reclaimed wood is just more difficult to work with and more expensive than new wood.

As a one-of-a-kind resource, each reclaimed wood top is unique.  Color may vary from board to board, top to top.  Some may show nails, some are pieced together, some have bolt holes that we fill with epoxy.  We work to balance the preservation of the natural wood character with the practical need of having a smooth work surface.

The desk is available with the the Jarvis electric adjustable standing desk base or the Humanscale Float base.  Jarvis bases are available in Black, White, Alloy, or Gray.  The Float is available in Black, White, or Gray. (The Float is new for us, so please contact us if you'd like to upgrade).  You can also order the top without a base if you're upgrading your existing standing desk (checkout with code NOBASE to subtract the base cost from the piece).

We finish your desk using a blend of traditional and modern finishing techniques.  The hand wiped stain highlights the rustic nature of the desktop's surface.  And we protect this beauty with a modern, environmentally responsible clear topcoat.  Your top is carefully sanded and clear coated with a high quality clear-coat that has low VOC's and passes KCMA durability tests.

Rubio Monocoat oil finishes are also available on Reclaimed Wood desks.  Contact us for more information, if you're interested.

Top Sizes:  30"deep x 48", 60" , 72", or 78" wide.

Please note - as a one-of-a-kind, made to order product - our reclaimed desktops are non-returnable unless damaged in shipment.

We encase your solid wood desktop in rigid foam and 1/4" cardboard to ensure safe shipment by FedEx Ground.

Lead Times

The usual questions.

  • How long will it take to get my desk?

That depends on the desk.  If you really need a desk now, you can order the desk you want and select the option to order a temporary top.  We'll send the temporary top ASAP along with the base so you can get up and running in no time.

Otherwise, the Response Desk ships within days.  Hardwood Slab desks a little longer.  Slims, Evolves, and our other desks all are cut, crafted, finished, and packed per order - we make exactly what you want.  That takes a little longer.  Check out lead time page to see how long things are taking right now.

  • How is the desk finished?

We use a combination of traditional furniture finishes and modern furniture finishes.  Combining artisan beauty with modern technology.

So, we hand wipe stains, we use traditional shellac to bring out the natural beauty of wood, and we seal it all with a protective, smooth, beautiful, low-VOC, water-based urethane finish (it's pretty awesome).

If that doesn't suite you, drop a line - we can finish your desk with Rubio Monocoat if you prefer a hand rubbed oil finish.

  • Which desk base should I choose?

This depends on the desk and you.  A couple of the desks (The Evolve, E2, & Michelle) require an extended range desk base to give you a full range of heights.  So when you order one of those - we don't give you the option - we automatically send you the extended range desk base.

Our other desks give you the option - you can choose the mid-range desk if those height ranges work for you.  If you're a bit shorter or taller - definitely consider the extended range base to give you height flexibility.  When in doubt, get the extended range for the added flexibility.

Other options are purely up to you.  Finishes are personal taste (though our "humble" designer is happy to help you pick if you need help).  The programmable controller is nice if you don't feel like holding down an up/down button.

If you still have questions, don't hesitate to ask.  We're a small, personable company and are happy to help.
